Turkey's First International WikiData Event to be Held

Turkey's first wikidata conference will be held in cooperation with Üsküdar University Health, Culture and Sports Department and Digital Information Association.

Turkish-speaking volunteers from ten countries and autonomous regions of the world are coming together at the Wikidata Conference at Üsküdar University on October 21-23, 2022.

Wikidata is a vast database created by volunteers and supports more than three hundred language versions of Wikipedia. The Wikidata Conference in Istanbul aims to support Turkish-speaking volunteers to improve their knowledge and skills on Wikidata and to support their efforts to make information about their culture and language accessible on the Internet.

Organized by the Digital Knowledge Association and the Wikimedia Community of Turkic Languages, the conference brings together participants from Azerbaijan, Bashkortostan, Georgia, Iranian Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Sakha, Tatarstan and Turkey. Each of the participants is an information volunteer who contributes to Wikipedia and its sister projects (Wikidata, Wiktionary, Wiktionary, Wiktionary, Wikisource, etc.) in his or her country through writing, translating, coding, etc. The conference will include presentations and workshops on how to query and share data in the Wikidata project, what are the inspiring projects using Wikidata in different fields and countries, how to use Wikidata to record the lexicon of a language, as well as presentations on the local activities of the initiators in their home countries and different common-knowledge organizations in Turkey.
Stating that this is the first time an international Wikidata event has been organized in Turkey, the organizers of the conference expressed their hope that this event will create opportunities for the development of joint projects between Turkic-speaking communities, and that the fruits of these efforts will be the presentation of more quality content about Turkish culture and Turkic languages on the Internet in the future.
