Psychoeducation Event on Fear of Childbirth by the First Touch to a Miracle Club
The event organized by the First Touch to a Miracle Club raised participants’ awareness by addressing the role of psychoeducational intervention in reducing fear of childbirth.
The training event titled “The Role of Psychoeducational Intervention in Preventing Fear of Childbirth,” organized by the Üsküdar University First Touch to a Miracle Club, was held on March 31, 2026, at the El-Razi Conference Hall at the Health Campus. The event addressed fear of childbirth, which is commonly experienced during pregnancy, the psychological effects of this fear, and the importance of psychoeducational approaches in the childbirth process.

The event’s speaker, Asst. Prof. Dr. Burcu Öskan Fırat, evaluated the effects of fear of childbirth on expectant mothers within a scientific framework and shared comprehensive information on the role of psychoeducational interventions in this process. Throughout the program, emphasis was placed on the effects of anxieties experienced during pregnancy on the birth process and the importance of psychological support.

The training emphasized in particular that lack of information, anxiety, and a negative perception of childbirth can increase fear of childbirth, and noted that psychoeducation-based approaches help expectant mothers approach childbirth in a more prepared and informed way. Participants were also given information on effective communication methods, counseling processes, and educational strategies.
During the event, it was stressed that fear of childbirth should be evaluated not only at the individual level but also in its psychological and social dimensions. Participants had the opportunity to examine more closely the effects that communication between pregnant women and midwifery students and health professionals in particular has on the birth process.
Throughout the event, attended by approximately 90 students, the Q&A session drew great interest. Participants stated that the sample case presentations and practice-oriented explanations helped make the subject more understandable. Students also noted that they could use the knowledge they gained in clinical practice and said the event was highly beneficial for their professional development.
The event organized by the First Touch to a Miracle Club was one of the productive events that increased students’ awareness of psychoeducational approaches, supported professional development, and provided a holistic perspective on the childbirth process.
