A Meaningful Film Screening for Autism Awareness by the Language and Speech Therapy Club
At the “Temple Grandin” film screening organized by the Language and Speech Therapy Club, the topic of autism awareness was explored through cinema, giving participants the opportunity to gain different perspectives.
The “Temple Grandin Film Screening in the Context of Autism Awareness” event organized by Üsküdar University Language and Speech Therapy Club was held on April 1, 2026, at the İbni Sina Auditorium. In the program, held in a cinema event format, students came together for a special film screening highlighting autism awareness.
The film “Temple Grandin,” screened as part of the event, presented participants with a compelling portrayal of an autistic individual’s life struggles, academic achievements, and place in society. Through the film, the aim was for students to gain awareness of autism spectrum disorder and to approach the subject from a more empathetic perspective.
During the screening, participants not only watched a film but also had the opportunity to observe more closely the social, academic, and communicative processes experienced by autistic individuals. While the importance of individual differences was emphasized through Temple Grandin’s life story in particular, the message that prejudices in society need to be broken came to the fore.
Throughout the event, students shared various reflections on autism awareness, communication skills, and social acceptance. Following the film screening, participants highlighted the impact of cinema in raising social awareness and stated that the event was highly meaningful and thought-provoking.
The event held by the Language and Speech Therapy Club both increased students’ professional awareness and fostered an important social consciousness toward understanding the life experiences of different individuals. Club members stated that similar awareness events will continue in the coming terms.
