A Journey Through History in the Middle of the Bosphorus: Cultural Trip Series Kicks Off with the Maiden’s Tower

In the first event of its Cultural Trip Series, the Üsküdar University History and Culture Club visited the Maiden’s Tower Museum, one of Istanbul’s iconic landmarks. Located off the coast of Üsküdar, this historic structure was not just a sightseeing spot for participants but also a living link to the past.

During the trip, club members discussed the roles the Maiden’s Tower has played throughout history, the architectural transformations it has undergone and the meanings it has acquired in different periods. Notable for its legend-woven story and its location in the middle of the Bosphorus, the structure strengthened participants’ sense of historical place.

The exchanges during the museum visit showed that historical knowledge can be acquired not only from books but also through on-site observation and experience. Accompanied by the exhibited artifacts and the atmosphere of the venue, participants gained new perspectives on Istanbul’s cultural memory.

Although held with a small group, the event offered a warm and focused environment for interaction. This helped create a productive trip experience in which participants could ask questions and comfortably share their ideas.

The Cultural Trip Series 1 – Maiden’s Tower event organized by the Ü.Ü History and Culture Club enabled university students to get to know the history of the city they live in firsthand, while also raising awareness of cultural heritage. The club aims to continue this series, which centers on cultural exploration, with visits to other venues.
