Climbing the Ladder of Science at Üsküdar: "Scientific Step" Academy Completed
With the "Scientific Step" program organized in partnership with the Cansağlığı Foundation, the Üsküdar University Cansağlığı Club introduced the scientists of the future to the dynamics of the academic world. In the three-day conference series, which drew strong participation, training was provided on a wide range of topics, from research ethics to project design and from article analysis to presentation skills, with the aim of involving students in academic production processes.
Üsküdar University hosted the "Scientific Step" program, organized to spread a culture of scientific research at the grassroots level and to develop students' academic writing skills. Organized by the Cansağlığı Club and held in the Emir Nebi conference halls, the event served as a comprehensive academy to help students grasp the systematic nature of scientific thinking. The program not only offered participants theoretical knowledge but also gave them the opportunity to experience the process through hands-on workshops.
In the program, conducted under the guidance of respected names from the academic world, Prof. Dr. Belkıs Atasever Arslan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Üvet, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hafize Emine Sönmez, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Büşra Yaprak Bayrak and Res. Asst. Beyza Gül shared their expertise in different sessions. Each step, from scientific article analysis to source evaluation methods, was covered through interactive presentations. The academics drew attention to the critical role that cornerstones such as research ethics and hypothesis development play in the success of a project.
Through "Journal Club" sessions, one of the most notable parts of the program, students learned to critically evaluate scientific articles. In workshops where literature search techniques were demonstrated in practice, strategies for reaching reliable sources while avoiding information pollution were shared. During this intensive process, in which 120 students actively participated, practical work was carried out on the finer points of academic writing and effective presentation techniques.
During the three-day marathon, students had the chance to receive one-on-one feedback from experts while designing and presenting their own project ideas. Carried out in partnership with the Cansağlığı Foundation, this collaboration once again demonstrated the shared vision of universities and non-governmental organizations focused on scientific development. Stepping into the kitchen of science, students grasped first-hand how seemingly complex research processes can be managed with a systematic approach.
Evaluations made at the end of the event showed that the "Scientific Step" program increased students' self-confidence and sparked interest in scientific production at the undergraduate level. Stating that such high-quality training series preparing students for academic life will continue, Cansağlığı Club officials emphasized that they are determined to make the most efficient use of the scientific infrastructure offered by the university. The program successfully concluded with the presentation of certificates to participants.
