Psychosocial Intervention in Disasters Seminar from the Social Work Club

The “Psychosocial Intervention in Disasters” seminar, organized by Üsküdar University Social Work Club, was held on November 13, 2025, at the Emirnebi 2 Hall. At the event, which attracted great interest from students, the responsibilities undertaken by social workers in disaster processes and psychosocial support mechanisms were comprehensively evaluated.

Shu Murat Çelik, who attended the seminar as a speaker, emphasized that disasters have not only physical but also psychological and social effects, and drew attention to the critical role social workers play in times of crisis. Throughout the event, the importance of accurately analyzing the needs of individuals after a disaster, managing trauma processes and community-based support work was highlighted.

At the seminar, students followed with particular interest the field work carried out by social workers in disaster areas, communication processes in times of crisis and psychosocial intervention methods. The assessments made through real-life examples made the practical application of theoretical knowledge more visible.

During the event, participants not only gained knowledge about disaster management but also had the opportunity to gain a broader perspective on the importance of the social work profession in processes of social solidarity and recovery. At the end of the event, students created an interactive atmosphere by asking the speaker questions they were curious about.

While emphasizing the importance of psychosocial support in disaster processes, the seminar held by the Social Work Club also contributed to the development of professional awareness among students studying social work.
