The Üsküdar University Positive Psychology Club brought cinema and psychology together with its Film Analysis event held in the Sokrates Hall on December 29, 2025. As part of the event, Children of Men, notable for its dystopian narrative, was evaluated from multiple angles, not just as a work of cinema but through the concepts of how individuals cling to hope, social disintegration and psychological resilience.
The event’s speaker, Asst. Prof. Dr. Koray Kırmızısakal, addressed the theme of hope hidden within the film’s dark atmosphere through the framework of positive psychology, and offered striking insights into how human behavior is shaped in times of crisis. Analyses of selected scenes from the film allowed participants to connect theoretical knowledge with concrete examples.
At the event, attended by approximately 30 students, students went beyond simply watching the film and had the opportunity to question its scenes, characters and narrative from a psychological perspective. The program, which proceeded interactively with a Q&A session, was further enriched by the participants’ active contributions.
This event organized by the Positive Psychology Club once again demonstrated that cinema is a powerful tool for understanding human psychology, while helping students develop their critical thinking and analytical perspectives.
