A Meaningful Social Awareness Visit from the Speech and Language Therapy Club

The Speech and Language Therapy Club’s visit to the Ümraniye Şakire Hanım Special Education Practice Center turned into a meaningful experience in which students had the opportunity to observe their theoretical knowledge in the field, with professional awareness and social sensitivity at the forefront.

With its visit to the Ümraniye Şakire Hanım Special Education Practice Center on December 26, 2025, the Üsküdar University Speech and Language Therapy Club held an event focused on social awareness of individuals with special needs and on professional observation. The visit allowed students to reinforce the knowledge they had gained in their academic courses in a real practice setting.

As part of the event, students observed in the field the approaches learned in the course on speech and language therapy in intellectual and multiple disabilities, and had the opportunity to examine special education practices on site. The work carried out at the center helped students develop their professional perspectives and allowed them to see how theoretical knowledge is integrated with practice.

During the visit, students experienced firsthand that working with individuals with special needs requires not only academic knowledge but also patience, empathy and awareness. In this respect, the event offered a learning process that strengthened a sense of social responsibility alongside professional gains.

Attended by a total of 13 students, the visit concluded as a meaningful and instructive gathering reflecting the Speech and Language Therapy Club’s approach to events, which prioritizes both educational and social sensitivity.
