As part of its “Tribute Visits Series,” the Üsküdar University History and Culture Club commemorated Cemil Meriç, one of the leading figures of Turkish intellectual life, at his graveside.
The “Tribute Visits Series 2” event organized by the Üsküdar University History and Culture Club was held at Karacaahmet Cemetery on January 15, 2026. During the event, Cemil Meriç, one of the most distinguished figures of Turkish intellectual life, was commemorated at his graveside.

In the program, which served as both a cultural trip and a commemoration, participants reflected on the works that shaped Meriç’s intellectual world and on his intellectual legacy. In particular, memorable lines from his work Bu Ülke (This Country) were recalled at his graveside, bringing to mind once again the master’s thoughts on humanity, society and civilization.
Held in a warm and meaningful atmosphere, the visit reinforced the participating students’ awareness of keeping cultural memory alive and paying tribute to the important figures of our intellectual world.
Through its tribute visits, the History and Culture Club aims to build a bridge between past and present and to increase students’ cultural awareness.
