Coffee Is the Excuse, English Is the Treat: A Lively “Speaking Club” Gathering from the Translation Club
With its "Speaking Club" event held on December 03, 2025, the Üsküdar University Translation Club took students out of the classroom and brought them together in an enjoyable social atmosphere. At this special gathering over coffee, participants improved their English speaking skills while enjoying a warm, friendly atmosphere.
The Translation Club, one of Üsküdar University’s dynamic societies, continues to make a difference with its vision of turning language learning into a social way of life. The "Speaking Club" event, held on December 03, 2025, was organized to improve students’ ability to express themselves in a foreign language and help them overcome language barriers.
Held at Kaffa Buna Üsküdar Kafe, one of Üsküdar’s popular spots, this social activity offered students a chance both to relax and to learn amid their busy academic schedules. Gathering on December 03, 2025, club members had the opportunity to practice English on a wide range of topics, from everyday subjects to academic ones, in an interactive format in which only the participants played an active role.
At the event, attended by approximately 29 students, the processes of "exposure" and "practice", among the most important elements of language learning, were turned into an enjoyable experience. The conversations over coffee helped students let go of their fear of making mistakes and speak English with greater confidence. This natural communication environment brought together not only translation students but also language enthusiasts from different departments on common ground.
Translation Club officials emphasized that language should not remain confined to textbooks and highlighted the critical role of such social events in linguistic development. The gathering of December 03, 2025 went on record as a successful example that supports participants’ social learning skills and actively uses off-campus learning spaces.
At the end of the program, the positive atmosphere created by the event and the new connections made received full marks from participants. It was seen once again that such high-quality social activities held under the Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports (HCS) strengthen students’ adaptation to university life. The Translation Club signaled that similar gatherings will continue at regular intervals throughout the academic year.
