First Touch to a Miracle: Midwifery Students Introduced to the "Rebozo" Technique
With its "Rebozo Support from Pregnancy to Birth" event, the Üsküdar University First Touch to a Miracle Club introduced midwifery students to a traditional and effective support method. In the training led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Özden Tandoğan, the importance of non-invasive support during childbirth was emphasized, and the midwives of the future had the opportunity to experience firsthand the Rebozo technique, which provides comfort during pregnancy and at the moment of birth.
The NP Health Campus of Üsküdar University hosted a meaningful workshop addressing the finer points of the art of midwifery and holistic care approaches. At the event organized by the First Touch to a Miracle Club, non-invasive support methods, an integral part of midwifery education, were discussed in depth. In the program, presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Özden Tandoğan, students were offered a practical vision that went beyond theoretical knowledge.
The "Rebozo" technique at the heart of the training showed how a shawl, a traditional woven textile, can become a professional support tool during childbirth. Participants learned the scientific foundations of this method, which helps the expectant mother relax, supports pain management and aids the baby's movement through the birth canal throughout the process from pregnancy to birth.
Held in classroom No. 611 of the NP Health Campus, the event became interactive thanks to the strong interest of students. Participants had the chance to practice different variations of the Rebozo technique one-on-one, adding a new dimension to their professional skills. Experiencing the place of this age-old method, learned from an expert, in clinical practice was an unforgettable experience for the midwifery students.
In the evaluations made at the end of the training, which was completed with the participation of 40 students, students stated that such non-invasive methods are very valuable for the midwifery profession. Noting that experiencing the techniques firsthand increased their self-confidence, the young prospective midwives conveyed to the club management their request that this special method be repeated regularly every year for new classes.
Emphasizing that they will continue to care for mother and baby health with a holistic approach, the First Touch to a Miracle Club stated that they will keep introducing students to current and traditional professional practices. The event concluded successfully with participants receiving their certificates and with practice photos taken to commemorate the day.
