Hands-On qPCR and Agarose Gel Electrophoresis Training by the Cansağlığı Club
At the hands-on training organized by the Cansağlığı Club, students had the opportunity to experience Real-Time PCR (qPCR) and agarose gel electrophoresis techniques in a laboratory setting.
The “Real-Time PCR (qPCR) and Agarose Gel Electrophoresis Training,” organized by the Üsküdar University Cansağlığı Club, was held on March 13, 2026, at the NP Hospital Ümraniye Medical Genetics and Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory. In the hands-on training, students had the opportunity to take a close look at laboratory techniques widely used in molecular biology and genetics.
At the event, laboratory supervisor Tayfun Gözler provided participants with theoretical and practical information on DNA analysis processes. Throughout the program, the measurement of DNA quantity, the performance of gene analyses, and the evaluation of the resulting data were covered in detail.
Participants gained comprehensive knowledge, in particular, of the working principle of the Real-Time PCR (qPCR) method, its areas of use, and its importance in molecular diagnostic processes, while the hands-on work gave them the opportunity to experience laboratory processes directly. Supporting theoretical knowledge with practice throughout the training helped students better understand the subject.
The program also included a hands-on demonstration of the agarose gel electrophoresis method. Students were shown how DNA samples are separated and visualized on the gel, and important information was shared about the basic laboratory techniques used in genetic analyses. Participants also had the opportunity to observe how laboratory equipment is used.
At the event, attended by approximately 15 students, participants did more than gain theoretical knowledge; they also had the opportunity to gain professional experience by seeing firsthand the analysis methods used in a molecular genetics laboratory. Throughout the training, students created an interactive learning environment by asking the questions they were curious about.
Held in collaboration with the Cansağlığı Foundation, the training was one of the productive events that increased students’ awareness of laboratory practices in molecular biology and genetics and helped them gain hands-on experience in scientific research processes.
