Meeting the Language of the Past Again: The Second Session of the Ottoman Turkish Reading and Translation Workshop Was Held
In the second session of the Ottoman Turkish Reading and Translation Workshop organized by the Ü.Ü. History and Culture Club, students continued to develop their reading, comprehension and translation skills through Ottoman Turkish texts.
The Üsküdar University History and Culture Club held online the second session of the Ottoman Turkish (Old Turkish) Reading and Translation Workshop, organized to support academic and practical work on Ottoman Turkish. Bringing together students interested in Ottoman Turkish, the workshop offered an opportunity to delve deeper into language, history and culture.
As part of the event, participants carried out reading and comprehension exercises on texts written in Ottoman Turkish. By focusing on the word structures, linguistic features and contexts of meaning in the texts, students reinforced their ability to read and analyze the texts accurately. In this process, the historical semantic world of words and the period-specific features of the language were discussed.

In the translation stage of the workshop, students carried out hands-on exercises in rendering the texts they had read into modern Turkish. This part aimed to develop not only translation skills but also the ability to convey a text while preserving its spirit and context. By exchanging ideas on the challenges encountered in the translation process, participants experienced an interactive learning environment.
The second session of the Ottoman Turkish Reading and Translation Workshop offered a productive learning process that allowed students to support their theoretical knowledge with practical application. It also raised awareness of the historical and cultural importance of Ottoman Turkish.
This high-quality initiative by the History and Culture Club concluded as a meaningful event offering academic depth for students wishing to connect with the past and contributing to an understanding of cultural heritage.
