One Article, One Coffee: A Warm Gathering of Scientific Conversations
The “One Article, One Coffee” event organized by the Speech and Language Therapy Club combined academic knowledge sharing with a warm atmosphere, bringing students together around scientific thinking.
Scientific Reading Culture Discussed in a Friendly Setting
The “One Article, One Coffee” event held by the Üsküdar University Speech and Language Therapy Club took academic work beyond a purely theoretical domain and turned it into a conversation-based learning experience. During the event, students had the opportunity to develop scientific thinking, critical reading and a professional perspective through a selected academic article. Making access to academic knowledge more understandable and shareable was among the main goals of the event.
The event’s guest, Üsküdar University Asst. Prof. Dr. Özlem Oğuz, guided the article reading process and shared important tips on how academic texts should be analyzed. Dr. Oğuz emphasized the importance, for professional development, of approaching scientific studies not only in terms of their results but also in terms of their methods, discussion and ethical dimensions. Students had the chance to hear directly from an expert about ways to approach the academic literature more consciously.
Conducted in a talk format, the event offered an environment open to active student participation. Participants asked questions about the article, shared their own interpretations and had the chance to hear different perspectives. This interactive structure helped transform the habit of scientific reading from an individual process into a collective learning experience.
One of the most notable aspects of the event was that academic content was discussed in a friendly conversational setting over coffee. This approach reduced the distance students may feel toward academic texts, making the learning process more accessible and enjoyable. Participants gave positive feedback about continuing this format in the coming terms.
With its structure that encourages scientific thinking, raises academic awareness and strengthens student-faculty interaction, the “One Article, One Coffee” event organized by the Speech and Language Therapy Club took its place among the high-quality club events under HCS.
