“Professional Conduct and Crisis Management in Consecutive Interpreting” Talk by the Üsküdar Translation Club

The talk organized by the Üsküdar Translation Club addressed professional conduct, stress management, and professional ethics in consecutive and simultaneous interpreting.

The talk “Professional Conduct and Crisis Management in Consecutive Interpreting,” organized by the Üsküdar University Translation Club, was held on March 11, 2026, at the Fuat Sezgin Conference Hall. At the event, attended by students interested in translation, comprehensive assessments were made of the stress and crisis situations that may arise in professional interpreting.

Cansu Franko, who attended the event as a speaker, shared with students the challenges interpreters may face during consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, giving examples from her professional experience. Throughout the program, noteworthy information was provided, particularly on managing nerves, communicating properly in sudden crisis situations, and maintaining professional conduct.

Participants had the opportunity to learn that, in addition to technical knowledge, communication skills, self-confidence, and stress management are of great importance in the translation profession. The presentations on how to approach unexpected situations that may arise during live interpreting and the role of the interpreter in moments of crisis were followed with particular interest by the students.

The event also addressed professional ethics in detail. The discussions on the interpreter’s impartiality, professional responsibilities, and stance toward the institution they represent increased students’ awareness of the profession. Thanks to presentations supported by examples from real experiences, students had the opportunity to better appreciate that the translation industry is a multifaceted field not limited to language knowledge alone.

The talk, attended by approximately 30 students, continued interactively with a Q&A session. Participants asked questions about professional life in the translation industry, professional experiences, and methods that can be followed in moments of crisis.

The event held by the Üsküdar Translation Club was one of the productive events that contributed to students’ professional development and emphasized the importance of a professional approach in the field of translation.
