Sociology Club Hosts Discussion on "Media and Women"

The Sociology Club, affiliated with the Health, Culture, and Sports Directorate of Üsküdar University, held a discussion titled "Media and Women" on November 28, 2025, at the Socrates Hall in South Campus E Block. The event aimed to raise awareness on the topics of female representation, media language, and gender equality.
The guest speaker was Pınar Aktaş, Editor-in-Chief of Milliyet Newspaper. Aktaş gave a comprehensive assessment of women's position in the media sector, biases encountered in news language, problems with the representation of women in the media, and ethical approaches to producing women-focused content. She also shared her journalism experience with the young participants, providing information on media literacy, journalism principles, and the importance of a gender perspective in media production.

The event proceeded interactively; students participated in discussions by asking questions and using current media examples. The program, which was attended by a total of 23 students, concluded as a productive discussion that supported the development of a critical perspective on the relationship between media and women.
