Steps That Overcome Barriers: A Meaningful Dance Theater from Üsküdans
The Üsküdar University Üsküdans Club raised awareness with a special dance theater it organized as part of December 3, International Day of Persons with Disabilities. At the event held on December 3, 2025, emotions that "know no barriers" were brought to the stage through the universal language of dance, and the audience witnessed an unforgettable artistic feast.
Adding another project to its social awareness initiatives, the Üsküdans Club, one of Üsküdar University’s most active societies, marked December 3, International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a meaningful stage performance. Held on December 3, 2025 at the Emir Nebi Conference Hall on the Çarşı Campus, the dance theater showcased how barriers can be overcome through the unifying power of art.
At the event, which was open to the public, the club members’ months of preparation paid off. Blending the aesthetics of dance with the expressive power of theater, the performance gave the audience emotional moments. In the program, enriched by the participation of Melek Çaylak and Gönül Tetik, the struggles and achievements of persons with disabilities in life were told through rhythm. Staged on December 3, 2025, this special performance reached a broad audience beyond the campus.
In the performance, in which approximately 20 students took an active part, the choreographies were more than mere dance figures; they carried messages of empathy and solidarity. The scenes that came to life in the atmosphere of the Emir Nebi Conference Hall drew great applause from the audience, while making a positive contribution through art to public perceptions of disability. Each figure served as a powerful reminder that barriers are not physical but mental.
The performance staged during the event once again affirmed Üsküdar University’s vision of a youth that is sensitive to social issues. With this dance theater, the club members did more than put on a show; they lit the fire of awareness in keeping with the spirit of December 3, International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Participants had the chance to experience firsthand that art is a form of expression that knows no barriers.
At the end of the program, the students and participants who contributed were thanked, and a group photo was taken. Carried out with the support of the Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports (HCS), this project once again demonstrated Üsküdar University’s success in social responsibility-oriented arts and culture activities.
