“Viruses and Gene Therapy” Talk by the MBG Club
The academic talk organized by the Molecular Biology and Genetics Club addressed the role of viruses in gene transfer and current developments in the field of gene therapy.
The academic talk titled “Viruses and Gene Therapy,” organized by the Üsküdar University Molecular Biology and Genetics Club, was held online via the Zoom platform on February 18, 2026. At the event, which stood out for its scientific content, students had the opportunity to gain comprehensive knowledge about gene therapy technologies and the biotechnological uses of viruses.
Dr. Semih Tareen, who attended the event as a speaker, explained in detail the mechanisms by which viruses enter cells and their role in gene transfer processes. Throughout the program, up-to-date scientific information was shared, particularly on the viral vectors used in gene therapy applications and the operating principles of these systems.
Participants had the opportunity to learn that viruses are not only disease-causing agents but can also be used as important tools in modern biotechnology and gene therapy research. Students followed with interest the presentations on gene transfer techniques, cellular targeting processes, and future applications of gene therapies.
During the event, current research, treatment approaches, and biomedical developments in the field of gene therapy were discussed through sample studies. The explanations on the potential of gene therapies in treating hereditary diseases and how viruses are used in these processes drew particular attention.
The talk, attended by approximately 50 students, continued interactively with a Q&A session. Participants had the opportunity to gain more comprehensive knowledge of the subject by asking questions about genetic engineering, biotechnology, and viral systems.
The event held by the Molecular Biology and Genetics Club helped students closely follow current scientific developments and was one of the productive events that raised awareness of innovative work in gene therapy and biotechnology.
