Child Development Club Organized a Seminar on Specific Learning Disabilities

Child Development Club organized a seminar titled "Early Symptoms of Specific Learning Disabilities and Supporting Social Skills" on December 23, 2024 at Üsküdar University Çarşı Campus Emirnebi - 2 Conference Hall. The face-to-face event was attended by Specialist. Child Development Specialist Hatice Güler Acar and Special Education Specialist Lütfiye Kalafat participated as speakers.

Drawing attention to the early symptoms of specific learning disabilities, Kalafat stated that this condition can usually be recognized in the preschool period, but the diagnostic process is often delayed. In his speech, he stated that problems such as speech disorders and poor concept development are common symptoms. She also emphasized that ignoring this condition by families can have lasting negative effects on children's social, academic and psychological development.

In her speech, Hatice Güler Acar emphasized the importance of proper guidance and support processes for children with specific learning disabilities. Stating that families should first accept the situation, Acar talked about the methods that can be applied at home and at school to support children's language development and social skills. She also stated that bringing children together with their peers through games and activities will contribute to the positive progress of the process.

Acar concluded his speech by demonstrating the games that can be played with children with specific learning difficulties.

105 people attended the seminar, which was met with great interest by the students. Participants stated that the event was very productive and expressed their demand for new events to be organized with the same speakers. The Child Development Club announced that such activities to raise awareness will continue.
