How did the history of korbol begin?

The game was developed in 1902 by Dutch teacher Nico Broekhuysen, who was inspired by a game he saw in Sweden. In 1903, the Dutch Korfball Association was founded, followed by the International Korfball Federation in 1933. It became an officially recognized sport by the International Olympic Committee in 1993. The word korfball is a combination of the Dutch words korf (basket) and bal (ball).

What is the Purpose of Morphball? What are the Rules?

The aim of the game is to score by throwing the korf ball into the opposing team's basket, i.e. the korf. Dribbling and running with the ball is prohibited. A team consists of 4 female and 4 male players. They are divided into 2 women and 2 men on each side of the field. The duration can vary depending on the competition. However, it is usually played in two halves of 25 minutes. Each half is divided into two equal periods with one minute break. Teams change positions after every two points. Defensive players switch to offense and offensive players switch to defense. There is also a change of field between halves. Physical contact such as pushing or pulling an opponent player is not allowed.

The Only Gender-Equalized Team Game Korfball

As we said at the beginning, korfball is a gender-neutral team game, and while almost every sport has a gender distinction, korfball does not, which makes the game more enjoyable. The only exception is in defense, where the man defends against the opposing male player and the woman defends against the opposing female player. However, compared to other team games, korfball is a much more egalitarian game. The game is based on skill, not strength, and requires the team to be well coordinated. It is also important for teams to be successful in both offense and defense as there is a change of position.

Development Stages of Korfball in Turkey

Corfball, which came to our country in 1995, started to become widespread and popular in universities over time. Marmara University and Istanbul Technical University were the first universities to start playing korfball. Later, korfball teams were also established in the Physical Education and Sports School (BESYO) departments of other universities. In 2002, the Turkish Korfball Championship was held for the first time. In the same period, it was also included in the Turkey Universities Sports Games program. Various courses were organized both at universities and schools to promote and popularize the sport.

Korfball at Üsküdar University

Üsküdar University, which encourages its students to participate in sports and works to develop them in this field, has a Korfball Team. Uskudar University Korfball Team came 4th in the Beach Korfball Turkey Championship organized by the Turkish University Sports Federation. Tryouts for the Korfball team are organized at the beginning of each academic year by the SKS department, just like the tryouts for other team sports.
