Psychology is a discipline that aims to understand the emotions, thoughts and behaviors of individuals within a scientific framework and to provide them with the skills to evaluate them critically through therapy. How many years is the education period of the psychology department?
Psychology is a 4-year undergraduate program. During the four years, students take theoretical and practical courses in the basic and sub-branches of psychology. They work on making sense of the role of the human mind in behavior and on applications for the diagnosis, treatment and improvement of mental disorders that occur within the mental process. In addition, students can expand their scope of education by participating in compulsory and voluntary internships. People who have successfully completed their undergraduate education are given the title of 'psychologist'.

What subjects are covered in the Department of Psychology?
In the psychology department, different topics related to psychological theory are covered. The curriculum consists mainly of information on the reflection of psychology on human behavior. Although the courses in the program vary according to the functioning of the universities, they basically go through the same subjects. These courses are as follows;
- General Psychology: Although it is an introduction to the department in the first year of psychology, it covers the basic concepts of psychology and courses to understand the development of psychology from yesterday to today.
- Cognitive Psychology: The changes observed in the human mind and the research and applications that support making suggestions for solving the problems encountered are covered in this course.
- Developmental Psychology: The reflection of the developmental process of physical and mental change that occurs in individuals in the natural flow of life on psychology is examined.
- Social Psychology: It covers the behaviors and attitudes of individuals in interpersonal communication and includes the ability to evaluate them from a multidimensional perspective.
- Health Psychology: The relationship between psychology and physical health is discussed.
- Positive Psychology: Contrary to the psychology of illness, which traditional psychology is based on, it has content that focuses on the health model.

What is Üsküdar University Psychology Department Education and Program Content?
Newcomers to the psychology department first encounter an education program that includes accepted information about the basics of psychology and its different branches. In addition, the program also includes elective courses on the relationship between psychology and other disciplines. In this context, in the first year of psychology, students take Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Philosophy, Positive Psychology and Communication Skills, General Sociology, History of Psychology, Anthropology, as well as the compulsory common courses Atatürk's Principles and Revolutions, Turkish Language, English and University Culture.
The second year of the psychology program builds on the knowledge acquired in the first year. In this education period, in which different branches of psychology are examined, there is an education program in which students have basic knowledge about psychology. In the spring and fall semesters, students take courses in Learning Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Health Psychology, Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Theories of Personality and Statistics.
In the third year of education, students are given the opportunity to put all the knowledge they have learned into practice with courses on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy. With a pool of elective courses in different categories, students are supported to create an education program that suits their interests and skills.
In the fourth and final year, the pool of elective courses is expanded so that students can focus more on the field they want to specialize in. During the semester, students are offered courses on the ethical dimension of psychology and learning psychological theories through experiments.
What are the Working Opportunities for Psychology Graduates?
Psychology graduates have a wide range of employment opportunities. In parallel with the number of graduates, the employment rate in the field of psychology is increasing day by day. Psychologists can specialize in various branches of psychology by participating in master's and doctoral programs after their undergraduate education. Rehabilitation centers, clinics, counseling centers, hospitals, polyclinics, mental health centers, courthouses, prisons and nursing homes are the main working areas where psychologists can work.
