Mistakes Made During the Selection Period
When making university choices, a large number of students succumb to their mistakes and fears. However, the mistakes made during this process can cause your future to take a different turn. So, have you decided who you want to be in your next life? Or did you make your choice based on the pressure of the environment? Your answer may be yes. But don't worry! In this content, we will discuss in detail the most common mistakes students make during the preference period. This way, one step away from the university gates, you will leave behind the unfortunate mistakes that led you to the wrong decision.
Well, are you ready to turn the key to your career doors and face your mistakes? If so, let's overcome the excitement of choice together!
1- Thinking All 24 Choices Must Be Filled
When choosing a university, candidates are given 24 preferences. One of the biggest mistakes is trying to fill this list. If you are confident in your preferences, of course, fill this list. However, remember that you do not have such an obligation. In order to fill this list, candidates write the departments they do not want with the thought of "it will not come anyway, let me write this department too". However, things may not always go as planned and you may be placed in that department. Therefore, the preference screen will approve your application whether the candidate makes a single choice or fills all 24 preference rights. The point you should pay attention to at this stage is to know that after you are placed in the department you have written in the preference list, your secondary education achievement score (OBP) will drop by half if you decide not to register.

2- Making a Choice According to Score, Not Ranking
The success ranking is the part of the result document that candidates should take into account when making a choice. After the placement results are announced, university and program rankings may change. Educational counselors say that you have a better chance of placement when you keep your preference range half above and half below your success ranking. For example, a candidate with a ranking of 50 thousand can add the departments between 25 thousand and 75 thousand to his/her list when making a preference. This will increase your chances of being placed in the relevant department without additional preferences.
3- Not Doing Detailed Research on University and Program
Before making your preference ranking, you should do a detailed research about the university and program you want to study. The opportunities offered by the university to the student, the employment rate of the department, the curriculum, academics, the location of the university, transportation, scholarships, campus are the most important criteria you should consider when placing that school on your preference list. Doing a detailed research before your preference will reduce your prejudices against the university and the department. Thus, you will create a more conscious preference list.
4- Making a Choice So That My Points Are Not Wasted
You got a successful result from the university exam, but this may not be enough for the department you want. The majority of candidates add the department they do not want to the preference list so that their points are not wasted. For example, those who write medicine when they want engineering just because they have enough points, or those who write law when they want psychology. Most of the candidates consider the job opportunities and the popularity of the profession while doing this. However, they may be unhappy when they do not see the result they want on the placement screen. At this point, you should ask yourself the following questions when making a decision. 'Do I really want this profession? Or where do I want to see myself in the future? If you answer these questions, you will not only waste your score but also your future.
5- Thinking that the Success Ranking Will Remain the Same
When choosing a university, consider the success rankings of the department in previous years. This will give you the average success range of students studying in that department. However, keep in mind that this ranking may change every year. After all, my ranking is enough, you will risk your other preferences by saying that this department will definitely come. Instead, you should create a list that starts not much higher than your own success rank and ends lower than your own rank. However, some candidates do not want to study without the department they want. If you think like this, you need to create a correct preference list before the additional placements. Ranking higher than in previous years does not guarantee that you will definitely be placed in that department. Do not ignore that this rate will not remain patient.

6- Ignoring Interests, Skills and Abilities
If you do not have a profession you have been dreaming of for many years, you may think that every profession is suitable for you during the preference period. Most of the candidates stay in this confusion and prefer the more prestigious department among them. Of course, we all want to have the best status for our future. Although this is true in a sense, if your interests and skills are not predisposed to this profession, a challenging education process may be waiting for you. You should make a choice with the awareness that the profession you choose is your job from now on. Otherwise, even if years pass, you can still look for a job in different professions. For this reason, do not neglect to consider your interests and abilities first when choosing a department.
7- Making Decisions Based on the Preference of Others
You may be influenced by your environment when making a decision during the selection process. You should choose that department because you want it, not because your family or friends want it. Some families may want their children to study the department they cannot read, while others may put pressure on the family business to continue. No matter how much they think it is best for you, you should be the last person to make the decision. You should make a choice according to your own interests and goals, not just because it is popular or has a high employment rate. To get rid of the pressure of the environment, you must first decide what you want. Remember that you are the one who will study that department.
8- Not Investigating Tuition Fees of Foundation Universities
The biggest mistake made about foundation universities during the preference period is not getting enough information about scholarship opportunities. If you want to study at a foundation university, you should first get information about program fees and scholarships. In order not to face various difficulties in your education process, make sure that the department you have chosen is suitable for your financial situation. In this process, you can get information from the web pages of universities or visit the university you have chosen during the preference promotion days. Scholarship does not mean that you will receive a hundred percent scholarship. You can benefit from various scholarships according to your score and success ranking. In addition, different scholarships such as achievement scholarship, athlete scholarship and sibling scholarship are also waiting for you while continuing your education.

We wish success to all candidates in this process.
