Seminar on Statement Taking Techniques and Statement Analysis in Criminal Cases Attracted Great Interest

The event titled "Statement Taking Techniques and Statement Analysis in Criminal Incidents", which was held on December 1, 2023 at 16.00, started with a speech by Communication Doctor Emrah Akçay on Zoom. The seminar, where detailed information on statement-taking techniques and lie detection in forensic incidents was shared, took place with intense participation and brought together nearly 100 participants.

One of the important points Emrah Akçay, Doctor of Communication, emphasized in his speech was that taking a statement starts with asking questions. Akçay emphasized the importance of detailed and effective questions, saying "We cannot learn anything we do not ask". He also drew attention to the necessity of choosing a quiet, distraction-free environment for statement taking.

In his speech, Akçay explained the reactions in the body of the person who lies and said, "The person who lies feels obliged to convince himself. The problems caused by the limbic system manifest themselves with symptoms such as dry mouth, fear, stress and an increase in body temperature." Akçay stated that micro-expressions and body language that should be considered while giving a statement are important in lie detection.

Towards the end of the seminar, Akçay pointed out that verbosity is often associated with lying and emphasized the importance of listening skills. He advised the students to acquire the skill of reading the body language and gestures of the person during the expression.

The event was completed by answering the questions of the participants. Doctor of Communication Emrah Akçay, Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy, moderator of the event, Assoc. Assist. Alihan Kocabaş, the moderator of the event, and the participants ended the event with a collective photo shoot after a successful seminar.
